AP Exams: Are They Necessary for CBSE/ICSE Students?
January 6, 2026 5 min read
The Context: APs are college-level courses. US high schools offer them. Indian schools usually don't.
Should you self-study for them?
YES: If you are applying to top-tier engineering (MIT/Caltech) and want to show you can handle advanced Calculus/Physics beyond the CBSE syllabus.
YES: If you are an ICSE/State Board student and want to prove you are competitive with global standards.
NO: If you are already struggling with your Grade 11/12 rigorous curriculum. Do not sacrifice your school marks for APs. School marks are Priority #1.
Benefit: High AP scores (4 or 5) can earn you college credit, saving you tuition money later.
